Company Values
Noctiluca Lighting, LLC was founded in pursuit of an undying passion for Architectural Lighting Design.
We promote an emphasis on FAMILY as the #1 priority and core value, but also genuinely care about PEOPLE, RELATIONSHIPS and BEING THE LIGHT that lifts others up, especially for other Women. We strive to ensure our Team and Clients are encouraged to pursue the spark that lights them, in and out of the office. Whether that is by taking pride in helping a Client bring a vision to life through enhancing the visual experience of an Architectural space - or by nurturing relationships and friendships and lending a smile (or impromptu dance party!) to the people who need a spark. While Bad Lighting = Bad Lighting, at Noctiluca Lighting we believe that Good Lighting = Great Architecture. We are here to help other people and spaces SHINE ON, and provide the Right Lighting. Everyone Shines, Given the Right Lighting " - Susan Cain |
The Noctiluca Team
Founding Principal - Diane Borys, LC, EIT, Associate IALD, LEED AP, CEPE
Architectural Lighting Designer, Engineer, Graphic Designer, Entrepreneur, Wife, Mum, Friend, Daughter, Triathlete, Problem Solver.
While there are many titles that define me, I always pour my heart and soul into each one. After growing up in Australia, I have had a wanderlust desire for travel and exploration - however my walk through life has always led me back the place where I find peace, reflection and inspiration - the OCEAN. I've always had a glowing enthusiasm for LIGHTING and so when founding a Lighting Design firm that embodied my expertise and passion to share with clients - the combination of ocean waves and light waves - or glowing ocean waves (Noctiluca "Sea Sparkle") was the perfect fit. While I offer a wide range of lighting design and documentation services, I most enjoy the client and human interaction. I welcome every opportunity to solve a problem creatively, and look forward to helping you achieve your next vision. |

What does the Alphabet Soup of certifications mean?
The long list of letters, or certifications, behind my name is reflection of my desire to never stop learning.

What is "Noctiluca"?Noctiluca - / näk - tə - lo͞ok -ə / - from Latin, literally ‘night light, lantern’
Noctiluca scintillans - or Sea Sparkle - is a free-living, marine-dwelling species of algae that exhibits a bioluminescent blue glow when disturbed. During the day the algae exhibit a red color and are often described as the Red Tide. Click to learn more and see more stunning photos SEA SPARKLE photos. Noctiluca was last visible in San Diego, California in April-May 2020. The phenomenon usually occurs every 3 to 7 years and according to the Scripps Oceanography Center is still hard to predict when it will appear again, since scientists still don't understand the variables that cause the algae to bloom. However, San Diego has been lucky to witness the bioluminesent waves in 1995, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2019 and again in 2020! |
